Nothing eco today really, but something that might help in your daily life. Reading through the net, a lot  of people seem to be having issues with this but hardly any answers to it.

What we have learnt today about Bluetooth and WiFi.

Bluetooth operates at frequencies between 2402 and 2480 MHz, or 2400 and 2483.5 MHz and use a technology called channel hopping, ie changing channels all the time randomly. I could not find any clue on the net as to what channels exactly. However from doing a few tests it would appear that most Bluetooth (Apple, Microsoft) seem to be hopping around the upper channels.

That was interfering big time with our wireless networks, of which one was set to channel 12 and one to channel 6 to avoid overlapping of the WiFi channels.

Through the test I did with various WiFi channels I found that lower 2.4 GHz channels work best, the lower the better. So I switched my WiFi channel to 2 and set my second WiFi simply to 5G as I could not find another 2G channel that would not either interfere with the first WiFi or the Bluetooth.

As a result, the teenager is happy again as he can use his MacBook air with Bluetooth keyboard while his WiFi download speed increased from 3Mbit to 42Mbit.

My surface WiFi increased from 30Mbit to 52Mbit. Distance from access point matters of course in that instance too.

So all in all, it was worth the testing and adjustments.

One note: 5G is the best solution to avoid issues with Bluetooth, however not all devices support 5G, like Chromecast can only do 2G, at least my first generation. So if you still need 2G, then try using the lowest channel possible should you have issues with Bluetooth interference. Ant there’s a lot of Bluetooth around, like keyboard, mice and the various game stations and controllers.
