With each added version it becomes increasingly clear that Google Earth is good for more than just looking up your street from space. The satellite based 3D mapping application has already been used to fight deforestation and gauge the effects of global warming on animal life.
The latest 5.0 edition brings even more improvements to what is already a one of a kind geo-search tool. The new Google Earth boasts a more detailed map of the ocean floor with the option to take a submarine-like ride under water. The feature will also include several new layers with Ocean-specific content contributed by National Geographic, BBC, Cousteau Society, and many others. Another green add-on comes in a form of Historical Imagery, allowing users to track the effects of global warming by viewing older satellite imagery. Other extras include third-party guided tours and even Google Mars in 3D!
