Vancouver Installs Charging Stations, Even Without Many EVs

Via goodcleantech.com, 22-06-2011

The city of Vancouver has announced that it will be installing a number of new electric vehicle charging stations across the city. This, in spite of the fact that city officials estimate that there are only around 20 electric cars on city streets.

The project is intended to determine just how viable EVs are in the region. Stations are being installed at several parking lots throughout Vancouver, including one near city hall.

“We build buildings to last hopefully hundreds of years, and we have to have these buildings have the right supplies for the energy of the future, which will hopefully be electricity, and not fossil fuels,” John Stonier, Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association spokesperson, told the CBC.

Though EV numbers are relatively small right now, that may change as the Nissan Leaf is set to make its debut in the province of British Columbia later on this year.
