Sharp is releasing nine new LED lamp models for the Japanese market which are all deemed highly-efficient, are mercury-free, and boast a long (40,000 hours) service life. These LED lamps have the same screw base as conventional incandescent lighting, making them preferable eco-friendly replacements.

The lamps come in various lighting colors so consumers will be able to choose among the warmer, dimmer and brighter whites, according to preference. One specific model among the nine though, comes with a remote control (which Sharp claims is the first in the industry) to control the lamp's Adjustable Color Function. Using the remote control, consumers can choose among the seven different available colors of the lamp "to match the weather, the season, time of day, purpose, or other preferences." Seeing as people choose different kinds of lighting for various parts of the house, the ability to change colors is an advantage.

Another model among the nine has a brightness of 560 lumens, which is among the highest in the LED lighting industry. According to Sharp, the most efficient of these LED lamps would cost just US$0.01 cents for 11 hours of use.

No word on if and when the lamps will be available outside Japan.
