Following in the footsteps of other household appliances equipped with sensors such as televisions and air conditioners, Panasonic is releasing the first home-use fluorescent lamp with the same feature. The new product is called the "Auto-eco Light-control Twin Pa" - a lamp that can detect the brightness of the area or ambient lighting up to three meters right below the lamp.

"This is the industry's first home-use lighting equipment whose brightness is automatically adjusted by a sensor," Panasonic said.

While it's ideal to take advantage of natural light during daytime, there are times when it's not feasible. Take for example, during cold months where natural light might be scarce in some locations. Upon measuring the ambient light, the lamp is able to adjust the brightness between 10 and 100 percent, dimming or brightening the light in increments so people don't notice. That way, whenever there's ample ambient lighting, energy usage is minimal.
